Welcome to the LawFull channel. My name is Barry Zlotowicz and I am a Chicago auto accident attorney.
I get calls every day from people who were recently involved in an auto accident and are looking for a car accident lawyer. And we see a repeating pattern of mistakes that people continue to make.
So here is a brief list of the 3 biggest mistakes people make after a car accident:
MISTAKE No. 1 – People attempt to represent themselves without doing their research. The insurance game is rigged in favor of the insurance companies. A car crash attorney can help you maneuver the system. But if you don’t want to retain an attorney, you can do it alone – just do your research! Talk to an attorney for advice, research on the internet about how to deal with insurance companies. Be prepared, because the auto insurance company is.
MISTAKE NUMBER 2 – Do NOT give the insurance company a “recorded statement.” Big mistake. Yes the insurance company is trying to figure out what happened in the accident. But they’re also trying to get you on the record so that they can use your statement against you later regarding either the facts of the accident or the nature of your injuries. Then they will use your statement to attack your credibility or limit your recovery. If its your own insurance company you may have no choice. But before you give a statement to the defendant’s insurance, talk to a car crash lawyer first.
MISTAKE NUMBER 3 – accident victims believe that the insurance adjuster is “on their side” or looking out for them. The insurance adjuster’s job is to represent the insurance company. The insurance company will use any tactic they can to delay, deny or diminish your claim.
